Slow Cooker Apple Pie Moonshine
In my husbands family this recipe forCrock-Pot Apple Pie Moonshine is a traditional Christmas Eve beverage. My husbands grandfather has made this mixed drink, or flavored beverage, for years and all the men in the family sit and gather in the basem*nt laughing, telling jokes and sipping on this drink.
It is also given as gifts to all the adults in the family so that we all can sip and savor it all year long.
Once the jars are open you can keep this drink in the refrigerator to drink cold (I think it tastes better cold) and will last all year long (or longer).
Please remember that this is a strong alcoholic adult beverage and it goes without saying that you should keep it away from children and of course, drink responsibly.
Our family uses Everclear which is 195 proof (95% alcohol) which means it is STRONG. Everclear is not always available everywhere, so if you cannot find it at your local liquor store then feel free to use another strong proof alcohol such as vodka.
This recipe makes about 105 shot sized servings. And are these Mason Jar Shot Glasses are PERFECT for serving in!
Equipment Needed For Slow Cooker Apple Pie Moonshine:
Because you are not distilling moonshine in your slow cooker this recipe is not true moonshine. Instead you are flavoring a strong distilled spirit to make a highly alcoholic flavored co*cktail.
If I cannot buy Everclear where I live what I can I use instead?
In some states in the US and some countries Everclear is not available. If you do not have access to moonshine or Everclear then we suggest using a high proof vodka.
How long can I store this apple pie moonshine?
When stores in a dark cool place this apple pie moonshine will store for many years. The high alcohol content makes it hard to spoil. You will drink it before it goes bad.

Sip away on this hillybilly co*cktail. Made with just three ingredients (apple cider, Everclear and cinnamon) this apple pie moonshine is full of flavor and punch! If you don't have access to Everclear you can use vodka!
If the container is sealed and kept in a secure location (assuming that the manufacturer properly distilled the moonshine), it won't hurt you to take a sip to evaluate the flavor. Although technically safe to drink, moonshine that “goes bad” will have an unpleasant taste.
Apple cider often has sediment in it, so do not be alarmed if it looks cloudy. Let sit undisturbed for at least 5 days, although I consider a week the minimum. The product must remain cool during aging and storage thereafter.
Combine apple juice, apple cider, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, and apple pie spice in a large pot; bring to almost a boil. Cover the pot with a lid, reduce heat, and simmer for about 1 hour. Remove from heat and cool completely. Stir grain alcohol and vodka into apple syrup; remove cinnamon sticks.
Ingredients: 12 lbs apples (tart apples work best) 3 cans 100% apple juice concentrate (frozen) 6 lbs white sugar 6 gallons spring water 2 packets dry yeast (4 ½ teaspoons using bulk yeast) Directions: 1. Cut up apples and put in a food processor and blend up 2.
Moonshine does go bad, and you can determine this by taking a small sip which will have a foul taste or taste worse than you expected. Drinking moonshine that is old or contaminated can result in adverse effects. Here are some moonshine effects: Seizures.
How long will my shine last? There is not an expiration date on our moonshines. If sealed, there is no expiration date on our Appalachian Sippin' Creams. After opening, we do recommend they be refrigerated and consumed within six months.
Storing opened flavored moonshine in the refrigerator prolongs its shelf life. The refrigerator temperatures slow down when the sugars and added flavors go bad. Unopened flavored moonshine can last for years, un-refrigerated and away from sunlight.
The usual carbon filtering process will in most cases remove the cloudiness, but as the cloudiness often stems from your wash coming through with the spirit, the sure way is to redistill the cloudy spirit. Simply pour the spirit back into your still, top up to the usual height with tap water, then run as per normal.
During distillation, most fusel alcohols are concentrated in the feints or "tails" at the end of the distillation run. They have an oily consistency, which is noticeable to the distiller, hence the other name "fusel oil".
How do I determine the proof of apple pie moonshine? You can use a proofing hydrometer, which measures the alcohol content of the moonshine. By taking a reading with the hydrometer, you can calculate the proof of the moonshine and make adjustments as needed.
I like to place it in the freezer about an hour before drinking. It will freeze up a bit, but I love the icy bits, You can certainly make this stronger, just add in another half-bottle (or less) of Everclear, or make it weaker by adding some extra cider. Play with it to get the bite/flavor you desire.
Moonshine is a clear, unaged whiskey with a corn base and a high alcohol content made at home. The term moonshine has been around since at least the early 15th century. But it wasn't until the late 18th century that the English used “moonshine” to describe illicit liquor made and smuggled during the night.
A 1 gallon run will yield 3-6 cups of alcohol. A 5 gallon run will yield 1-2 gallons of alcohol. A 8 gallon run will yield 1.5-3 gallons of alcohol. A 10 gallon run will yield 2-4 gallons of alcohol.
The conversion of starches to sugars is a natural process, accelerated by cooking. An uncooked mash will convert starches to sugars but much more slowly and less efficiently. Your added sugar will ferment rather easily and will provide most of the alcohol in your beer.
How long does flavored moonshine last. It all depends on how you store your apple pie moonshine. In an airtight container, it should last 3 - 4 months in the back of your refrigerator. If you seal your jars properly in your mason jars, they can last up to three years.
- Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine. “How long will a jar keep unopened.” Different flavors will have different life spans. Generally they will last two years unopened and about six months after opening.
Re: Can a mash go bad? Yes. When smelling it, you should aim to assess whether or not alcohol is still present in sufficient quantity (smells similar to a beer or wine, probably closer to a weak and sour wine in your case).
When apple pie has gone bad, it may start to grow mold, typically a fuzzy white or green substance appearing on the surface. Additionally, if the pie has a sour, off smell, then it's a sure sign that it's spoiled. The taste can also be off, sour, or simply not as fresh.
