The original 151 Pokemon are all present in Pokemon Quest, but which are the very best? Reference this page to see which Pokemon you should be after next to make the best team.

Best Starter Pokemon

The first few areas are quite easy, so truthfully any starter Pokemon will do fine. We suggest to not pick Pikachu, since it's one of the easiest Pokemon to lure with a Recipe. You can see all of their base stats below.

Because Fire-type Pokemon are more difficult to come by, and because the second expedition area gets a bonus from Fire-type Pokemon, we recommend Charmander, but any would work.

Best Early Game Pokemon

You'll want to get these Pokemon early on in your adventure for a decent advantage. Click the Recipe link to see exactly what to cook to attract them.

• Onix is relatively easy to get and has great stats starting out. It can learn Harden and has fantastic HP, making it an awesome defensive anchor early on.
• Scyther can be slightly difficult to obtain, but it has an amazing attack stat even at very low levels.

• PinserSame as Scyther, it has great attack for a base Pokemon

• Aerodactylis another great base Pokemon with a good attack stat. Yes, there's a trend - Pokemon that don't evolve are generally great starting out.

Best Pokemon

These Pokemon are some of the best in their class with the appropriate moves and Power Stones attached. Keep in mind these don't include Legendary Pokemon. Those can only be obtained after the credits role. Click the Recipe link to see exactly what to cook to attract them.

• Golem: This Rock- and Ground-type Pokemon has the highest HP stat in Pokemon Quest, plus, it can learn Harden. With three Sharing Stones attached, it shares that defense buff with its teammates. As a close-range Pokemon, it will take hits more often than your others, which is perfect for a Tank. Golem is better than Onix, but is more difficult to get.

• Machamp: Machamp can learn Bulk Up, which can support its teammates with both a defense and attack boost - as long as it has a Sharing Stone attached to it! If you can get a Machop with Bulk Up with two slots and an attack move, that is ideal.

• Alakazam: Like the original Red and Blue, Alakazam is a powerhouse in Pokemon Quest when equipped with Psychic. This honing long-range attack deals tons of damage. Give it a Whack Whack Stone and possibly a Wait Less Stone for maximum damage output. Depending on its Power Stone spread, it can be a bit of a glass cannon, so make sure its teammates can support it with Sharing Stones and defensive moves like Harden.

• Snorlax: This heavy-weight Normal-type Pokemon has a caveat attached to its "best" ranking. Its third Bingo Bonus must be 550+ Attack. This gives it some of the best balanced stats in the game. It can also learn Mega Punch, one of the best attacks in the game as well, making it a fantastic balanced Pokemon.

• Dragonite: Dragonite's stats are higher than ever other Pokemon's besides Legendaries, and it has access to one of the best moves in the game: Draco Meteor.

• Lapras: Some of Lapras' bingo bonuses lets it heal more and take less damage. Paired with a healing Aqua Ring makes a good choice as a defensive anchor.

• Magneton: This Electric- and Steel-type Pokemon seems a bit underwhelming, but its balanced stats and access to Supersonic make it a great support Pokemon.

• Starmie: A Starmie with the Bingo Bonuses Water Type Moves Wait in the first two slots and ATK of Water Type Moves in the third slot paired with Hydro Pump is a ridiculous power house. It destroys waves of Pokemon with ease.

Surprisingly Bad Pokemon

Most final evolutions are fine, and with the right Power Stone spread and team balance, you can get by. One Pokemon has been noticeably left behind, though: Gyarados. Its stats are underwhelming and it just doesn't learn any outstanding moves.

If you're insistent on leveling up a weak Magikarp, at least make sure it has a Pokemon Size Change +50% Bingo Bonus for an attack boost of 300 once it evolves.

How to Build a Team

Before you pick your Pokemon, you need to learn the basics of putting together a decent team. This isn't so important early on, but eventually, you'll want to get a little more in-depth in order to progress more efficiently. Look for Pokemon that cover these roles:

• DPS (Damage Dealer):This Pokemon should deal massive damage, so look for Pokemon with high attack stats and good damaging moves.
• Support:This Pokemon should know a move that helps your entire team. Your Defensive Anchor could know one of these moves to free up a slot for two DPS Pokemon, or you can choose a more balanced Pokemon like Machamp to take this role. Look for moves like Bulk Up and attach a sharing stone for Attack and Defense Boosts, or moves that cause confusion like Supersonic and Confuse Ray.
• Defensive Anchor:An anchor Pokemon's sole job is to stay alive so you almost can't lose. Pokemon with very high HP like Onix and Golem make good defensive Pokemon, as do Pokemon like Lapras with moves that can heal itself. Look for a Pokemon with moves like Harden, Barrier, and Acid Armor, and give it Sharing Stones to double its role as a Support as well. You almost always want a Defensive Anchor unless you're grinding easier levels. There are quite a few Pokemon that can fill these roles, but we feel the ones we listed are some of the best.
